Healthcare Strategies for Housing

With a growing understanding of the social determinants of health, the practice of intervening to address patient "social needs" has become more common in the health system. HSHE examines how the healthcare system works to coordinate housing placement with community organizations, improve capacity and referral processes to house patients, and invest, build, and repair housing.

Publications

The authors conducted a scoping review to discover strategies health systems use to promote housing as a social determinant of health. As investment in housing becomes a growing practice within the healthcare industry, the study highlighted the need for more upstream focus, consistent funding, and reliable evaluation strategies.
